⚡ Before You Go — Essentials
🎌 Golden Week Alert
Your trip falls during Japan's biggest holiday week (Apr 29–May 6). Expect massive crowds at attractions, fully booked trains, and surge pricing. Book USJ tickets, Express Passes, and restaurant reservations well in advance. Arrive early at popular spots — 30 minutes before opening is the sweet spot.
🏠 Your Home Base
Fraser Residence Nankai Osaka is in the heart of Namba, a 3-minute walk from Namba Station. You're surrounded by Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, and Kuromon Market. The serviced apartments have kitchens — perfect for storing snacks, making breakfasts, and doing laundry for the family.
🚇 Getting Around
Get an ICOCA card for each family member (tap-on/tap-off on all trains, subways, and buses). The Osaka Metro Midosuji Line from Namba connects to most major spots. For USJ, take JR from Namba → Nishikujo → Universal City. Consider the Osaka Amazing Pass for free attraction entry and unlimited subway rides.
🍜 Dining Strategy
Fine dining for dinners only — lunches and breakfasts are casual. Osaka is the street food capital of Japan: takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes), and kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) are everywhere. We've picked family-friendly fine dining spots that welcome kids. Book at least 2 weeks ahead for Golden Week.
💴 Budget Tips
Convenience store breakfasts (onigiri, sandwiches, coffee) are great and cheap. Casual lunches run ¥3,000-5,000 for four. Fine dining dinners will be ¥15,000-30,000 per meal. USJ tickets + Express Passes are the biggest single expense (~¥50,000-70,000 for the family).
☀️ Weather
Late April/early May in Osaka is gorgeous — 18-25°C, mostly sunny with occasional spring rain. Pack layers, comfortable walking shoes, and a light rain jacket. Sunscreen is essential for theme park days.
