🚗 Car Culture Tip

Unlike the Commemorative Museum (which is about manufacturing), this museum showcases 140+ beautifully restored cars from Toyota AND global manufacturers. European classics, American muscle, JDM legends side by side. The Cultural Wing shows how cars shaped Japanese society.
Atsuta Shrine
One of Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines, housing the legendary Kusanagi sword (one of three Imperial Regalia). Ancient camphor trees, serene grounds. A spiritual palate cleanser after two days of car museums.
Osu Shopping District
Nagoya’s answer to Akihabara meets flea market. Retro games, vintage clothing, street food, and the occasional car-themed shop. Less tourist-oriented than Tokyo’s equivalents.
Nagoya TV Tower & Hisaya Odori Park

Four floors of otaku paradise — less crowded and cheaper than Akihabara. Rare figures, vintage toys, retro games, and Mandarake (Japan’s best second-hand anime/manga chain). Car model shops too.
🚗 Nismo Headquarters Visit (Tsurumi)
If you’re serious about Nissan performance cars, Nismo’s headquarters in Tsurumi (Yokohama) sometimes offers showroom visits. Call ahead. Even driving past the facility is thrilling for GT-R fans.
Koenji Evening Stroll
Tokyo’s counterculture hub. Live music venues, vintage shops, izakaya-lined streets. Raw, authentic, zero tourists. The kind of neighborhood that makes you fall in love with Tokyo.
Hakone — Mt. Fuji Views & Mountain Roads
Day trip to Hakone. Hot springs, Mt. Fuji views, pirate ships, and the legendary mountain roads car enthusiasts dream about.
Romancecar to Hakone
Take the Odakyu Romancecar from Shinjuku (85 min, reserved seats, scenic). Buy the Hakone Freepass for unlimited transport in the Hakone area — ropeway, pirate ship, bus, train.
Hakone Open-Air Museum
Japan’s first open-air art museum. Sculptures by Picasso, Moore, and others set against mountain scenery. Kids love running between the installations. The Picasso Pavilion is surprisingly good.
🚗 Hakone Mountain Roads (Scenic)
If weather permits, the views of the winding mountain roads from the bus/ropeway are incredible. These are the roads that inspired Initial D’s mountain passes. The Hakone Turnpike is a legendary touge (mountain pass) in JDM culture.
Lake Ashi Pirate Ship & Mt. Fuji Views
Board a pirate ship replica across Lake Ashi. On clear days, Mt. Fuji looms perfectly framed across the water. Kids love the ship; adults love the views.

The 333m orange-and-white tower (1958) still charms. Less crowded than Skytree and more photogenic. Main Deck at 150m has great views. The retro vibe feels perfectly Tokyo.

Last chance for souvenirs! Don Quijote (Donki) has everything. Tokyo Station’s Character Street has official shops for Pokemon, Ghibli, Sanrio, and more.
